Tough Case Review

I purchased this case to help protect my investment and it certainly has done the job. I have dropped it a few times from about 4ft off the ground landing on cement and hardwood flooring and there was no damage to the case or to the phone. slips easily into pocket but has a nice grip feel when holding

Tough Case review

this case has protected my phone from breaking when it has been dropped and i have not any issues with dropped calls. the case is very comfortable to hold and has a nice grip so it doesn't slip out of my hands.

Good protection but mine look worn

I bought the case with the grey outer shell, it offers good protection. My only problem with the case, that the outer shell became rusty pretty fast, the paint came off. On the other hand, I dropped the phone sometimes, and it still in one piece :)

Expectations not met this time

I am a repeat customer and own three other Case-Mate cases for two different iPhone models. All of them have met or exceeded my expectations except for this one. The silicone across the bottom below the home button is loose and floppy. I carry the phone in my pocket and this loose fit makes it unusable for me.

Case-Mate iPhone 4 Tough Case

The case is ideal. Doesn't look like a case, and it makes the phone 100% slip resistant. It also protects the screen when you set down the phone because it elevates the phone slightly. I can distinguish my phone from other people's phone, because my case is white. Love it!

Outstanding case...adds superb protection with minimal increase in phone size

My wife and I searched extensively for a case that provided multiple layers of protection but preserved the essential sleak form factor of the phone. The Case-Mate Tough case fit the bill perfectly and has met our expectations completely. An outstanding case....and we're picky.

Great Premise...But Execution Needs Work

I bought this case to replace others that were bulkier, more industrial-looking, or flimsier while affording reliable protection. This case feels great in the hand, seems plenty rugged (without looking nerdy) and the silicone bezel around the iPhone display raises it from flush contact with another surface. My big gripe is that, when the iPhone is properly seated in the case, the case actually covers (slightly) the camera lens and flash. The cutout needs to be bigger or placed a millimeter or two differently than where it is. Could be a defect in my partcular unit, but I'd be wary about spending another $30+ to replace without an assurance of perfect fit. No one's silicone seems to beat the dust/lint problem.

Have found nothing better to protect iPhone 4

This was a gift from a Kiwi (New Zealand) friend. I was complaining about my protector and he tore his off of his iPhone 4 and gave it to me! (He had another)You cannot go wrong, it is exactly as advertised with no negatives. It does NOT impact the operation of the iPhone 4 camera. A great product!

Great case

Great case. Offers really good protection. the 2 piece design allows damping of impact forces. And since the silicone later is on the inside, the phone still slides into my pocket! The annoyance that I have (which I took one star away in my overall rating for) is that the strip of rubber that goes over the front bottom edge of the phone is not supported by the plastic outer shell and subsequently is loose and floppy. I wish the plastic case would have supported that. I considered cutting it off, but I think it would expose that area of the phone to impact damage if I removed it.

Tough case

Great case, I have bought 7 cases looking for perfection and I think this is it. Don't really see how it could be improved. Love the 2 piece protection, love the rubbery feel with out it being to tacky to put in and out of my pocket. Protects the front and back of phone, does not push up edges of screen protector.

Great Case

I went from an OtterBox Defender to This. I love it. It feels really sturdy without adding too much bulk to the phone. The silicone inner stays nice and firm and doesn't get in the way. the shell makes it extremely easy to slide in and out of your pocket. I recommend this case to anyone

Good Protection for Price!

I like the case overall, very nice. The only thing that could make it really good is the fit of the silcon case that wraps the phone first. It seems a little loose, allows the phone to slide slightly(1-2mm). Also, the bottom of the silicon where the speaker, mic, and connector are at is ver loose. If the hard ABS plastic shell covered this area along with the silicon case it would make it an extremely great case. It does not feel like it adds alot of extra bulk for the protection you get for the phone. If I found something that had the silicon inner and hard plastic exterior but covered the phone as stated above I would switch, but for the price of this case you cant beat it. Only other case I briefly considered was the Ottercase, but for the added bulk and price it wasn't worth it for me, as I am an office person, and that bulk and protection offered by the ottercase deterred my decision to this sleeker case. Overall: if you want good proection from more than scratches, pick this case, very well thought out case with the silicon shock absorber and the ABS plastic outer. I have already recommended it to several other people.

Compared to Nexus One Tough Case

If this was my first Tough Case, I'd probably give it 5 stars. However, my first Tough Case was for the Google Nexus One phone, which forces me to compare the two, and the iPhone 4 version falls a little short. The biggest drawback is the somewhat flimsy bottom, most likely due to iPhone design. Case-Mate needed to leave an opening for the dock connector and speakers, which only allow for a thin rubber strip near that area. It still protects well, however pales in comparison to the sturdy thicker rubber of the Nexus or even the rest of the iPhone. Again this is by design. The Nexus only has a micro USB on the bottom allowing for much more protective rubber real-estate. Don't get me wrong. I love the case and plan on keeping it!

crazy night

OK, first I drop it, it's fine, then I knock an entire beer on it, wiped it off, no problem, then it falls off the lifeguard tower, she was crazy, anyhow bounces off the tower base gets buried in the sand, guess what, no damage at all! Buy this case if you have crazy nights!

Q) How thick is this this case/skin combo?
A) The Case-Mate iPhone 4 Tough Case is about 1/2 of an inch thick.

Q) Does this case have a gripping texture so it does not easily slide out of a pocket or off a hard surface? Does this case add much bulk to the phone?
A) This Case-Mate iPhone 4 Tough Cases does have a textured plastic shell. However, you should not experience any issues with removing this case from your pocket. This case is only approximately 1/2 inch thick.

Q) Is the screen protector a film type or a polycarbonate or plastic type?
A) Made from a tough self-adhesive polymer, they prevent fingerprints, dirt, dust and scratches from marking up your iPhone.

Q) I dont quite get the way the two parts are put on the iphone. Once you put on the case on to the phone is the outside the silicon sticky/grippy part or is it the hard plastic that doesn't stays stuck in your pockets?
A) The iPhone 4 Tough Case is a 2 piece case. Put the Silicon Skin first on the phone and then the Shell. The shell will add the extra protection and for easy handling without being slippery or grippy.

Q) How does this case deal with the iPhone 4's LED flash? Some of the cases already released by other companies produce washed-out pictures because of the flash bouncing off of the edge of the camera case hole.
A) You should not experience any issues with the flash not working properly while using any of our cases.

Q) will your iphone 4 tough-cases fit if I am using an Invisble Shield screen protector. So far cases that I have bought from Best Buy displace the screen protector. *Note: I do not want to use your screen protector so that is not an option for me. I am loyal to Invisible Shield for screen protectors. Thanks for your time.
